Pork Ramen Noodles at Momofuku Noodle Bar
Last night, walking down 1st Ave in the East Village arm-in-arm with my dear Lucy, freezing cold and not all that psyched about the raw drizzle factor, we decided there was no suitable dinner option other than soup. However no ordinary soup would do, so we made the executive decision that last night was a Momofuku Noodle Night.
Noodles are simple. They are hearty, particularly when you order the pork ramen at David Chang’s Momofuku. I hadn’t been to Momofuku Noodle Bar in awhile, avoiding it partly because it’s too popular and partly because I’m obsessed with getting into Momofuku Ko, his newest spot.

this picture hardly does justice to the beauty of these pork buns, served with hoisin and crisp cucumber
Gosh, what a mistake to think I’m beyond ramen noodles. Lucy and I sat at the comfortable bar and ordered the steamed pork buns, which are literally heaven in a chinese dough bun. I then went whole hog and ordered pork ramen. The $12 bowl is big, steamy, filled with perfectly cooked ramen noodles in a rich, silken broth, chunks of braised pork, scallions and shitake mushrooms. I shared it with a cold amber ale. Good noodle soup is a whole lotta good slurpy fun.
Momofuku Noodle Bar: 163 First Ave at 10th St. They moved into a much bigger space (Ko took over the original noodle bar space) so getting a spot at the bar or one of the tables shouldn’t be too difficult.
Here is the website..try getting a reservation at Ko online. I challenge you.
